This research documenting Marys Mount history through 1825 to 1973 whilst contributing and informing upon Passionate religious and social Passionate history in Goulburn, New South Wales (NSW) Australia, ‘The Passion: Marys Mount Passionist Monastery – A Historical Perspective’ provides the story as reported in the Marys Mount diary from 1890 to 1953. The diary contains information gleaned from newspaper articles dated 1802 to 1973. Other historical resources were also utilised.
Only primary resources have been used for this research. The use of primary sources ensures the reader and students of religious history are provided with sound authoritative information using the voices of those who made that history.
Mary’s Mount on Goulburn’s western fringe consists of contemporary dwellings circa 2018 and onwards. Historically, Mary’s Mount was a rural area with continued population growth and expansion. Based on Goulburn Mulwaree Council publications, Mary’s Mount is a suburb of Goulburn within the Goulburn Mulwaree council area as it was during the early stages of the building of Francis Tait’s house named Ravenswood as recorded in Goulburn’s history.
Goulburn’s population increased and schools, banks, retail outlets, hotels and transport such as horses, carriages continue to be of historical interest. This book will enhance and add to the published social history of Goulburn and New South Wales, Australia.
